A great deal of thought and planning go into selecting the perfect wedding flowers. The choices are endless, yet the aim is always the same: stunning bouquets, boutonnieres, and blooms for a glorious, picture-perfect day.
While Bermuda is fairly isolated in the middle of the Atlantic, local florists can source flowers and greens from exotic locations and countries across the globe like New Zealand, South Africa, and South America, all shipped from a Boston hub.
“We tend to use what is in season, and we educate couples as to why this is a good tactic,” senior designer Michelle Geary of Flowers by GiMi explained. “This ensures the best quality since blooms look their finest and are at their peak. It is also more cost effective.”
Popular again for the fourth year running are flowers and greens with a vintage look, according to Michelle. When it comes to color, less is more. Favorite hues are lilywhites, light blushes, and gentle neutral tones. Green tones range from pleasingly pale to deep and dark. The resulting look is organically soft, romantic, and elegant.
Tradition continues to play a key role, with some on-trend tweaks. Long cascading bouquets now boast a very natural feel. Prominent in boutonnieres are endemic Bermuda cedar, accents of rustic driftwood, and bleached starfish. Still, when couples prepare for a two or three-day event, splashes of bright color dominate creating a fun, vibrant look.
Alba Fernandez of Exclusive Flowers Bermuda said island brides favor the latest looks from the U.S. and Europe.
“Wedding flowers and themes in Bermuda are influenced by trends that come from both sides of the ocean,” Alba explained. “Gone are bright colors, bling, crystals, and diamonds. Ocean blues with a splash of lime and white are quite popular. Without question, the current look is organic, natural, and minimalist.”
Exclusive Flowers of Bermuda is currently doing a lot of work with cedar logs and soft colors.
“With cedar logs you get Bermuda roots and a rustic look,” Alba continued. “When used with subtle hues, the result is a beautiful contrast of softness and texture. Texture is often overlooked, but it is very important and something I think about a lot when designing.”
Alba noted that the present day shift to a less-is-more approach helps couples stay within their budgets. Professional tactics like using gorgeous, full bloom hydrangeas is one way Exclusive Flowers ensures their couples get the most bang for their buck.
Both Flowers by GiMi and Exclusive Flowers Bermuda provide fabulous blooms, gorgeous greens, and skilled techniques that result in unforgettably beautiful creations. What makes both stand out as premier wedding florists are their passion, love, and attention to detail that go into every arrangement.
