THE PROPOSAL: We were at the Christmas Walkabout in St. George’s. Duncan and I both love Bermudian history and have a lot of family ties to the Town of St. George’s, and we always loved the walkabout right before our favorite holiday. Duncan had planned to take just me to the walkabout but then a huge group of friends decided they wanted to join us. So as not to alarm me, Duncan said it was fine but it was difficult for him to peel away. Also, that day it started to rain and so the walkabout was almost cancelled. Duncan somehow managed to pop the question when we had a moment to just the two of us, and my family, including my sister who flew down to surprise me, all came out to celebrate. It was the best night.
THE PLANNING: As we are both Bermudian, we decided that Bermuda would be the best option for us. Once again, St. George’s is very special to us so we decided to have the ceremony at the St. Peter’s Church and the reception at my aunt’s property in St. George’s. We were very lucky to have Selange and Matt of Dasfete as our wedding planners. They made the entire process seamless and we couldn’t have had a more perfect day to celebrate our wedding.
THE LEAD-UP: We had a number of family members and friends fly in for the wedding and for some, it was their first time visiting Bermuda so we wanted to ensure that they had a fantastic time. We hosted a welcome drinks cruise on the Zara to cruise around the Great Sound. On Friday we hosted a welcome party at my parents’ house, then had the rehearsal dinner at Tom Moore’s Tavern, another favorite of ours. On Sunday, we decided to have a brunch at Duncan’s parents’ house. We were lucky in that the weather was beautiful that weekend and we encouraged our guests to explore the island, especially St. George’s.
GETTING READY: Champagne and girl friends were a must. I got ready at my parents’ house in St. George’s with my nine bridesmaids, my mom, and mother in law. We had such a lovely relaxing morning getting our hair done by Blueprint Hair Studio and makeup done by Zaurie Smith of RedDoors. The boys got ready at Tuckers Point and had plenty of beers. They got ready in their matching Coral Coast shirts.
THE WEDDING: We chose St. Peter’s not only because it is in St. George’s, but the church itself, being so historic, is a beautiful space and we wanted our guests to enjoy it. Being in that church with our closest friends and family watching us get married was one of the most special moments of our life. We literally couldn’t stop smiling.
THE PARTY: We wanted a relaxed yet elegant setting and Dasfete did an amazing job of bringing our vision to life. My aunt’s property is a beautiful space on the water and it was important to us that the nature surrounding us really stood out. Our hashtag was #thehuntisover and Matt and Selange used a number of hunting items around the property like an arrow and white antlers. Gosling’s served us delicious his and hers drinks as guests arrived and set up at a beautiful large bar surrounding the biggest tree on the property. We were really keen on having a family-style dinner and Fourways did a fantastic job of making sure every table was flowing with delicious food. Our night would not have been as fun if we hadn’t had the Big Chill there. They kept the party going all night. When our cabs came to pick us up we couldn’t leave; we were having so much fun.
THE HONEYMOON: We had a really quick trip after the wedding to Charleston in the United States. We have our official honeymoon in Italy this year—a great way to extend the wedding celebrations!
THE FUTURE: Our wedding was such a special day but the fun is only just starting. We are now living in St. George’s with our third wheel, Dayton, our English cocker spaniel. We love living and working in Bermuda and constantly comment on how lucky we are to be in such a special place with all our family and friends so close. Right now we are both focusing on our immediate careers but we would love to start a family in our future.
