Bermudians Katie and David Roberts went to school together as children, but they didn’t actually meet one another until later in life, when both were at a local bar with friends. They are both animal lovers, and they absolutely adore spending time with their family and friends.
Together they are the perfect pair—both down-to-earth and loving. It wasn’t long after they met when it became clear that Katie and David would spend the rest of their lives together.
David’s birthday was coming up, so Katie and her mother planned an intimate dinner for family and close friends, which would begin with a cocktail cruise around Castle Harbour. Katie arrived to board the boat and discovered a path of rose petals leading down to the dock. Instantly, she knew what was happening and started panicking as any event planner would. She wasn’t prepared, nor in control. Her hair was wet, but it was all happening and she was ecstatic.
On the bow of the boat, David stood patiently waiting to ask Katie a very important question. He helped her onto the boat and led her to a romantic set up of cushions and champagne, which he had chilled in an old ice chest that belonged to Katie’s grandfather.
After an attempted speech and a lot of hugging and kissing, Katie excitedly accepted his proposal. David stood up from one knee, and at that moment, white doves were released from a basket on the balcony where their parents were watching and taking pictures of the romantic scene. A surprise engagement party followed and the merriment continued into the wee hours.
“After Katie said yes, I was over the moon with excitement and the rest of the evening was perfect just like I had pictured it,” says David.
Since she was a little girl, Katie always dreamed of her wedding day, and eventually her love for party planning grew into a career when she founded her own events company, All The Trimmings. She knew she wanted blush, gold, and ivory as her colors, and she wanted the overall decor to feel whimsical and romantic.
For the couple’s ceremony and reception venue, they chose the Mid Ocean Club. They were wed in front of the old chimney, where the eloquent and comical Bishop Dill led a beautiful traditional ceremony. Katie paid tribute to her grandfather, who passed away three years prior, by displaying his Ordination Bible in a glass box on the signing table.
The bride wore a blush-colored Lazaro ball gown, with a lace bodice and iridescent sequins throughout. The skirt had multiple layers, including a layer of sparkling tulle. Attached to her bouquet of ivory peonies and blush blooms was her late grandmother’s “lucky nut” pendant.
The groom wore traditional light blue Bermuda shorts with a classic navy blazer and knee socks. Complementing the bride’s feminine, traditional theme were her seven bridesmaids in strapless light blue high/low gowns and glittered Kate Spade pumps, which matched Katie’s own. Accompanying the ladies were David’s six groomsmen and Katie’s man of honor, whose ensembles matched David’s. Guests waved ribbon wands of blush and gold as the couple walked down the aisle as man and wife.
After the couple said “I do,” it was time to feast and celebrate. The reception’s focal point was the “fairy tree,” three reconstructed fruit trees from Katie’s family home with 400 hanging glass spheres, all filled with blush and ivory petals and tea lights. The two tablescapes tied in with the overall theme—one featured gold mercury vases with posies, ivory pillar candles, clear vases with single buds, and votives with tea lights; the second had a breathtaking overflowing arrangement.
“We had the most magical ambiance we ever could have dreamed of,” says Katie. “I stood under that tree several times over the course of the night and just cried happy tears.”
The couple and their guests danced the night away to music by The Kennel Boys, and everyone enjoyed the exquisite cake, which was decorated with a gold leaf at the base miniature white flowers with gold centers on the top three layers.
“Everything went off perfectly as planned and the weather was great,” says David. “I couldn’t have asked for a better day or a more beautiful bride.”
The happy couple looks forward to celebrating their marriage this year with a winter getaway followed by a spring honeymoon.
